Testimonials
“I started as an admin in the Wilmington office in July 2018 while I worked to get my Bachelor’s in social work. Once I completed my degree I tested for and obtained my LSW and began the transition from administrative specialist to Clinical Counselor at the three Warren County Outpatient sites, Franklin, Lebanon, and Wilmington. I enjoy working at Talbert House because it feels like the people have a real passion for this population. We have such a high need for services in this area for substance use and mental health that it feels great to be a part of an agency that feels like it cares all the way from the CEO reaching out in person to help and to the clinicians, case workers, and administrative staff with their “boots on the ground” to help each client get the help that they need."
- Debra Frump, Clinical Counselor

"This has been one of the most rewarding years of my professional career. I feel extremely blessed and fortunate to get to work every day with genuinely great people while having a positive impact on our community."
-Alex Rulon, Associate Director

“The work I do excites me. It reminds me that it does not matter how many times someone may fall or stumble, it is about how they get back up and try again. I get to witness individuals on a daily basis get up and try again. I enjoy helping others change their behavioral patterns so they can be successful in their attempt to lead healthy and productive lives.”
-James Woodson, ASM

"My favorite part about working at Talbert House has been working with therapists and enabling them to enable change. I enjoy seeing their growth. Coming in being a novice, fresh out of school with limited experience, I enjoy watching them grow - thinking and gaining confidence in skill." "My advice is: you have to be flexible. There have been so many different changes all through the system. Even the way therapists or case managers would have approached a client is different today. Now we look at so many more dimensions. Change - if you're going into this field, you have to be able to adapt to change."
-Judy Richardson, Supervisor (Adult Behavioral Health)

History
Talbert House was founded to help homeless men reenter the community. In August 1965, with a budget of $30,000 from private donations, the first halfway house program opened.

Today, Talbert House operates in multiple service areas in conjunction with its affiliate Gateways, A Recovery Center throughout Greater Cincinnati. The services are offered to a broad-based population with the agency's mission in mind: to improve social behavior and enhance personal recovery and growth. Talbert House helps thousands of men, women, and children throughout Southwest Ohio overcome adversity to become healthy and productive citizens.

Talbert House was named after Dr. Ernest Talbert (1879-1971), Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of Cincinnati, for his support of community alternatives rather than institutional care.
